"Unlimited" means we do not put a fixed disk or bandwidth quota on your account. It does not mean infinite capacity: this is shared hosting, and the space is there to run an ordinary, actively-visited website. The clauses below describe what the plan is, and is not, meant for.
- It is for hosting a website
- Disk space and bandwidth are for files that form part of a live, publicly reachable website served from this account. Files that are not used by your site are not covered by the plan, however they got there.
- It is not a backup service
- The account may not be used to back up personal or office computers, phones, cameras, other servers or other hosting accounts. That includes disk images, installers and archive sets (.zip, .rar, .iso, .tar) that are not part of the website.
- It is not a media library
- Large individual video files, or large numbers of video and audio files, are not permitted — whether or not they are linked from your pages. Video belongs on a streaming or CDN provider built for it, and your site can happily embed it from there.
- It is not an archive
- Long-term archiving — of documents, records, logs, or old versions of a site — is not what the space is for. Archives grow without limit and are never read, which is precisely the workload shared hosting cannot carry.
- It is not file sharing or cloud storage
- You may not run a file-sharing, file-drop, mirror, torrent or "cloud drive" service, and you may not resell, share or otherwise give third parties storage space on the account.
- It is not an email archive
- Mailboxes are for day-to-day correspondence. Using them to archive mail indefinitely, or to store a large volume of attachments, is outside the plan. Outbound mail is limited to 100 messages per hour per domain.
- Fair use of bandwidth
- The plan suits normal business, brochure and e-commerce traffic. It is not for high-bandwidth or high-concurrency workloads: launches and live events watched by large numbers of people at once, streaming, download mirrors, or anything that genuinely needs cloud, CDN or a dedicated server.
- Shared-server limits still apply
- Removing the disk and bandwidth caps does not remove the account's CPU, RAM, entry-process, inode and I/O limits, which are the same premium limits as Nova Premium. Sustained excess is throttled by the platform.
- One website per account
- Addon and parked domains are not enabled on this plan, so it hosts a single website. Subdomains are unlimited. If you need to host separate sites, take an account per site or talk to us about a reseller plan.
- Keep your own backups
- We take routine platform backups, but they are a courtesy for disaster recovery and not a backup service you should rely on. Keep your own copies of anything you cannot afford to lose.
- If usage becomes unreasonable, we talk to you first
- We will contact you describing the problem and give you a reasonable period to put it right. If it cannot be resolved on shared hosting we may throttle the account or ask you to move to a VPS or dedicated plan, and we will help you do it. Immediate suspension is reserved for accounts that threaten the stability of the platform or breach the law or our Acceptable Use Policy.
